This week’s featured artist is Fercute, a Minnesota native, who creates beautiful prints that inspire all little ones. Read below to learn about her favorite artists, her daughter’s artistic inspirations, and more!

BBP: Describe your art in 5 words or less!

Fercute: Colorful, whimsical, woodsy.

BBP: Name an artist or person that inspires your art and why!

Fercute: Two artists that inspire me are Carson Ellis and Mary Engelbreit. Both produce the most amazing illustrations in very different ways. I honestly bought Wildwood for the beautiful Illustrations, but ended up loving the story. Mary’s work has always been around since I was a kid, so I feel like it has always influenced me. Now I always buy children’s book with her illustrations for my daughter, she is always so amazed by the illustrations.

BBP: Did you go to school for art or are you primarily self-taught?

Fercute: I took art classes at a local art center since I was 6 and then I continued to an art college.

BBP: When did you start designing/creating?  Was there a particular event that inspired you to pursue it further?

Fercute: I guess I’ve always been designing or creating.

BBP: How has your style changed since you started?

Fercute: I think my style is constantly changing to and evolving, I’m always trying to improve my work.

Fercute: Yes, Trysten soon to be 9.

BBP: If you asked them to describe your art, what would they say about it?

Fercute: That it’s soooooooooo cute.

BBP: How are their rooms decorated?

Fercute: Pink and chalkboard walls, so she can draw everywhere! But she says drawing is my thing.
