Featured Artist: Storybird Prints

Storybird Picture 1This week’s featured artist is Storybird Prints, also known as Lisa Pineau, a Nova Scotia, Canada native. She loves creating trendy and inspiring prints that are perfect for any nursery. Read below to learn a little bit about this amazing artist that helps make BoomBoom Prints an awesome place!

BBP: Describe your art in 5 words or less!

Storybird: Modern, pretty, and fiercely feminine.

BBP: Name an artist or person that inspires your art and why!

Storybird: I love Emily Henderson. She just has great style. I also love Bri Emery – I always “Dress my Tech” with the lovely downloads on her website

BBP: Did you go to school for art or are you primarily self-taught?

Storybird: I have a degree in public design in which there are several mandatory graphic design courses. I found myself spending more time making the cover pages of my academic papers look pretty rather than worrying about the content. So I would say I’m primarily self-taught with a life-long love of all things creative.

BBP: When did you start designing/creating?

Storybird: Was there a particular event that inspired you to pursue it further?

I was a marketing and events manager in my former life so there was always an aspect of design involved. I had mostly created posters, brochure and invites. I just started wall prints last year and I love having carte blanche.

BBP: How has your style changed since you started?

Storybird: When I started I would say that I had an edgier style. Now I focus mostly on modern nursery prints with a soft color palette.

BBP: Where is the coolest place you’ve visited?

Storybird: My favorite place in the world is Thailand. The beaches are amazing, the food is incredible and it has such a great vibe.

BBP: Do you have a particular spot or place where you create most of your art?

Storybird: My office. I also have a favorite coffee spot that is a nice change out of the house.

BBP: Do you have any children? If so, what are their names and ages?

Storybird: I have one daughter who is 7.

BBP: How is her room decorated?

Storybird: She helped design the most recent decor renovation. It’s blue and purple with a lot of funky elements and dog posters. If it was up to me, it would probably look different but it’s not up to me anymore :)

BBP: What is she into these days? A specific toy? A hobby?

Storybird: She loves shopkins. It’s the first thing she really been into as far as toys go. Before that it was mostly arts and crafts, and baby dolls.

BBP: Do you have any pets?

Storybird: A dog we got from the shelter 3 years ago. She sheds a lot.

BBP: Growing up, were your parents into or involved in art?

Storybird: My mom was always into the latest trendy craft. Whether it was ceramics, crabapple dolls, stamping or scrapbooks. My favorite Christmas gift were usually the ones that I could make like rug hooking.

BBP: What were your favorite hobbies as a kid?

Storybird: As a young child, I was very crafty. In my teenage years, I was usually at cheerleading or rowing practice.

BBP: What’s your favorite story to tell about your childhood?

Storybird: My dad was in the air force so we were always moving. I loved living in a gated air force base. We knew everybody and I could ride my bike wherever I wanted. There was a community swimming pool, corner store, lots of parks and a gym. What more could a kid want?

BBP: What did your room look like growing up?

Storybird: I was the youngest of 5 kids and pretty spoiled! I had a beautiful canopy bed with light blue gingham pattern. I would love to have that bedroom set today!

BBP: Who is your favorite famous person (current or historical) and why?

Storybird: Currently, I love Jessica Alba. I love her style and really admire the company she has built. I also love Johnny Cash.

BBP: Favorite song?

Storybird: With or Without You, by U2. Also, “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” by Neil Diamond. And many more!

BBP: Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Storybird: If it was safe from predators and had lots of food and water, then I would say my daughter.

BBP: If you couldn’t be an artist, what would you do instead?

Storybird: I would love to be a magazine editor or wedding planner.

BBP: Do you prefer to swim in a pool, ocean, or lake?

Storybird: Ocean

BBP: What is one thing that you’ve never tried, but would like to?

Storybird: Archery

BBP: Do you prefer milk chocolate or dark chocolate?

Storybird: Dark chocolate all the way!

BBP: Sunglasses or hats?

Storybird: Sunglasses

BBP: Sweet or savory?

Storybird: Savory

BBP: Dogs or cats?

Storybird: Dogs
